Drama Shakespeare and Elizabeth
The course aims at enabling students to get acquainted with an
anthology of English Revenge Drama, to provide students with the
tools for literary analysis and critical interpretation, to expand
students’ horizons and knowledge by exposing them to both
traditional and modern critical theories. The course aims at
exploring the historical, aesthetic and dramatic patterns of
Elizabethan drama versus Jacobean drama.
Gender and language
The course will familiarize the students with the history of
language and gender scholarship through its four major theoretical
models: )a( women’s deficiency, )b( patriarchy or male-dominance,
(c) gender differences, and (d) gender diversity. While reading
different articles in the textbook, which represents schools of the
diversity model, attention will be paid to its critique of its
predecessors and to its self-critique.
Language and gender studies will also be considered in the
broader context of cultural studies, as cognate with domains such
as language and race or language and nationalism.
Survey of English literature is an introductory course which
focuses upon the early pieces of literary heritage which constituted
the hallmarks of artistic achievement since Geoffrey Chaucer. The
course will highlight the general setting and the flourishing of
literary works so that students become aware of the development of
various literary genres- dramatic, poetic, and verse.
The course will enable students to scrutinize the distinguished
artistic achievements of the early period. Thy will acquire the
