Discourse Analysis

The course Discourse Analysis will examine the relationship
between language and the contexts in which it is used. It will also
examine discourse analysis in general and, in greater detail, the
way grammar, lexis, phonology, and spoken and written language
have been approached by discourse analysts. In addition, the
course will display skills for examining how humans use language
to communicate and how they construct and interpret linguistic
messages and contexts.

Psycholinguistics
The course will deal with various topics in Psycholinguistics that

pertain to the learning & using of language with particular
reference to the kinds of processes & strategies involved in
speaking, writing & reading. Moreover, the course examines how
social and psychological factors affect the use of language. Thus,
students will benefit from an understanding of the mental processes
that a person uses in producing and understanding language and
how human beings acquire and learn language as well.

Sociolinguistics
The course will introduce the main topics of interest and some

practical methods of the field of sociolinguistics. The course will
explore some facts about language use in social contexts, the
structure of language and the nature of linguistic competence.
Moreover, it focuses upon how sociolinguistic research affects
language teaching, and the pedagogical implications of the issues to
be addressed.
