with academic materials. Moreover, the course aims at fostering
the thinking processes which students need to develop in order to
read standard English effectively. It improves students’
understanding and skills as to the nature and function of the
reading processes.

Basic Techniques in English Teaching Methodology
The course covers a wide range of teaching skills and

techniques: basic classroom skills, practical techniques for
developing the four skills (L,S,R,W), use of aids and materials, and
skills of preparation and evaluation.

Phonetics and Phonology
The course introduces the standard theory of phonetics, which is

the general study of the characteristics of speech sounds. Our
primary focus will be on articulator phonetics: the study of how
speech sounds are produced, or ‘articulated’. The course will also
introduce the standard theory of phonology – the study of the
sound systems of English – at an elementary level, providing and
evaluating methods of phonological analysis. The course will be
based on analyzing data mainly from English.
Introduction to Linguistics

The course aims at highlighting and demonstrating basic
concepts and recent theoretical ideas in the major areas of
linguistics. It offers an understanding of both the internal structure
of language (its form) and the varied uses of language in human life
(its function). Likewise, it fosters attitudes of confidence in
approaching linguistic analysis and confidence in one’s ability to
carry out effective lessons. Consequently, students become aware of
