Travel is a key constituent of life. It is manifested almost in everything surrounding us. Travel is a nonstop movement, an enduring passion for change, development and exploring new worlds. Travel is a wide space for escape, immigration, for fear and hope. It is a reality, or a fiction, an inspiration for heroism and for new revelations. It is also the interior journey of the spirit towards its perfection.

Islamic culture, from its early stage, witnessed a dynamic situation of mobility and travels. Muslim travelers embarked on a rihla as surveyors, emissaries, and educators. Mobility was one of basic features of medieval Islamic society, and a central aspect in the process of establishing knowledge. Travel acted as a significant instrument in the consolidation of Islamic culture as theoretical, social, and political space.
